The You and Me Orphanage in Kekanadura was founded in 1996, during the dark days of the war, to care for children whose parents were cruelly taken away by LTTE terrorists. Nearly 30 years later, this loving home still stands strong — now sheltering children who have lost both parents in tragic accidents or have suffered from domestic abuse.
Today, little ones as young as five find love, safety, and belonging within these walls. Under the devoted care of Principal Mr. Dayananda, Warden Mrs. Chandrani, and their dedicated team, every child is treated with compassion, kindness, and motherly warmth.
But life at the orphanage isn’t easy. With very little government assistance, they rely entirely on the generosity of kind-hearted well-wishers. There are times when they struggle to afford even a simple meal for their 14 children. A full meal for all of them costs only Rs. 6,000 (around £20) yet that small amount can make a world of difference.
So here’s a heartfelt request: instead of spending money on a birthday party, why not celebrate your special day by visiting the You and Me Orphanage? Bring along a cooked meal or contribute towards one, and share your happiness with these wonderful children. You’ll leave with something truly priceless — their smiles, their songs, and their love.
The UK Friends of Galle (UKFG) fully supports the efforts of the Board of Directors of the Home to nurture the talents and character of these young children and help them grow into good citizens of society. As a first step, we have decided to sponsor the services of a highly qualified teacher to train the children in traditional cultural dance, helping them compete in inter-children’s home competitions.
The teacher visits every Monday and is paid Rs. 4,200 (£12) per week. Mr. Devsiri has generously funded the first ten classes. The children are learning oriental dance with great enthusiasm and joy.

A New Roof, A New Beginning
Recently, Mr. Devsiri and his friends from overseas funded a brand-new roof for the orphanage — a generous contribution of Rs. 300,000, which restored safety and comfort to the children’s home.
The official handover took place on 11th October 2025, attended by Mr. Sirisena Gamage, Chairman of the Foundation, along with Mr. and Mrs. Devsiri and Ruvini Hewavidana, Mr. Didul Gamage, Mrs. Nilanthi, Miss Imasha, and Miss Amasha.
The ceremony was graced by the Chief Incumbent of Veherahena Viharaya, Most Venerable Kegalle Rathanasara Thero, who expressed deep gratitude to the UK Friends of Galle Foundation for their continuous service to this home and to 17 schools in Kamburupitiya.
The little ones celebrated in the sweetest way — singing songs and performing dances for their guests, their faces glowing with joy and pride.

“ඔබ සහ මම” ළමා නිවාසය – කැකණදුර මාතර
කැකණදුරේ “ඔබ සහ මම” ළමා නිවාසය 1996 දී ආරම්භ කරන ලද්දේ යුද්ධයේ අඳුරු දිනවල, එල්ටීටීඊ ත්‍රස්තවාදීන් විසින් කුරිරු ලෙස මරා දමන ලද දෙමාපියන්ගේ දරුවන් රැකබලා ගැනීම සඳහා ය. වසර 30 කට ආසන්න කාලයකට පසුවත්, මෙම ආදරණීය නිවස තවමත් ශක්තිමත්ව පවතී – ඛේදජනක අනතුරු වලින් දෙමාපියන් දෙදෙනාම අහිමි වූ හෝ ගෘහස්ථ අපයෝජනයෙන් පීඩා විඳි දරුවන්ට දැන් රැකවරණය සපයයි.
අද, වයස අවුරුදු පහක් තරම් කුඩා දරුවන්ට මෙම බිත්ති තුළ ආදරය, ආරක්ෂාව සහ අයිති වීම ලැබේ. චන්ද්‍රානි මහත්මිය සහ ඇයගේ කැපවූ කණ්ඩායමේ මෘදු රැකවරණය යටතේ, සෑම දරුවෙකුටම අනුකම්පාව, කරුණාව සහ මාතෘ උණුසුම ලබා දෙනු ලැබේ.
නමුත් අනාථ නිවාසයේ ජීවිතය පහසු නැත. රජයේ උපකාර ඉතා ස්වල්පයක් තිබියදී, ඔවුන් සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම රඳා පවතින්නේ කරුණාවන්ත ජනතාවගේ ත්‍යාගශීලීභාවය මත ය. ඔවුන්ගේ දරුවන් 14 දෙනා සඳහා සරල ආහාර වේලක් පවා ලබා ගැනීමට ඔවුන් අරගල කරන දින තිබේ. ඔවුන් සියලු දෙනාටම සම්පූර්ණ ආහාර වේලක් සඳහා වැය වන්නේ රු. 6,000 ක් (පවුම් 20 ක් පමණ) පමණි – නමුත් එම කුඩා මුදලින් ඔබට විශාල වෙනසක් කළ හැකිය.
ඉතින් මෙන්න හෘදයාංගම ඉල්ලීමක් — උපන්දින සාදයකට මුදල් වියදම් කරනවා වෙනුවට, ඔබ සහ මම අනාථ නිවාසයට ගොස් ඔබේ විශේෂ දිනය සමරන්නේ නැත්තේ ඇයි?
පිසූ ආහාර වේලක් රැගෙන පැමිණමේ අපූරු දරුවන් සමඟ පැය කීපයක් ගතකරන්න. එසේ පැමිණීමට නොහැකි නම් අඩුම ගානේ ආහාර වේලක් සඳහා වියදම් වන මුදල එම නිවාසයට පරිත්‍යාග කරන්න එවිට ඔවුන්ම එම මුදලින් රසවත් දිවා හෝ රාත්‍රී රාත්‍රී ආහාර වේලකන් දරුවන්ට සංග්‍රහ කරනු ඇත ඔබේ සතුට බෙදා ගන්න.
ඔවුන්ගේ සිනහව, ඔවුන්ගේ ගීත සහ ඔවුන්ගේ ආදරය ඔබට බලවත් සතුටක් ගෙන දෙනු ඇත. ඔබ සැබවින්ම මිල කළ නොහැකි දෙයක් සමඟින් පිටත්ව යනු ඇත –
එසේමමේ කුඩා දරුවන්ගේ හැකියාවල් දියුණු කොට ඔවුන් සමාජයේ යහපත් පුරවැසියන් කරදීමට නිවාසයේ පාලක මණ්ඩලය දරන උත්සාහයට ගාලු මිතුරු පදනම සම්පූර්ණ සහයෝගය ලබාදෙයි. එහි ප්‍රථම පියවර වශයෙන් මෙම දරුවන්ට නැටුම් පුහුණු කොට ඔවුන් අන්තර් නිවාස තරගවලින් ජයග්‍රහණය කරදීම සඳහා පුහුණු ගුරු තුමියගේ සේවය ලබාදීමට අපි තීරණය කළෙමු. සෑම සඳුදා දුර පැහැර සිටියේ පැමිණෙයි දරුවන්ට නැතුව පුහුණු කරන මේ ගුරුතුමියගේ ගාස්තුව සතියකට රුපියල් හාරදාස් දෙසීයකි. දෙව්සිරි මහතා එතුමියගේ පළමුවැනි පන්ති දහයට දැනටමත් මුදල් ගෙවා ඇත. නිවාසයේ සියලුම දරුවන් ඉතා ආසාවෙන් හා ප්‍රොරොබෝදයකින් යුක්තව පෙරදිග නැටුම් හදාරමින් සිටිති.
මේ ඉතාමත් ප්‍රයෝජනවත් නැටුම් පාඨමාලාව දිගටම පවත්වාගෙන යාම සඳහා මුදල් පරිත්‍යාග කරන ලෙස අපි දේශීය හා විදේශීය දානපතිවරුන්ගෙන් ඉතා ඕනෑකමින් ඉල්ලා සිටිමු. දරුවන්ට කෑම වේලක් දීමට හෝ නැටුම් පන්තියට ආධාර කිරීමට කැමති පින්වත් අය කරුණාකර අප පදනමේ ශිෂ්‍යත්ව සම්බන්ධීකරණ නිලධාරිනි ඉමාසා මෙනෙවියට 0719767823 කතා කොට විස්තර දැන ගන්න

මෑතකදී, දෙව්සිරි මහතා සහ විදේශයන්හි ඔහුගේ මිතුරන් අනාථ නිවාසය සඳහා අලුත්ම වහලක් සඳහා අරමුදල් සපයන ලදී – එය දරුවන්ට නැවත වරක් ආරක්ෂාව සහ සැනසීම ලබා දුන් රුපියල් 300,000 ක ත්‍යාගශීලී දායකත්වයකි.

මෙම අවස්ථාවට ළමා නිවාසයේ අධිපති හා වෙහෙරහේන විහාරාධිපති අතිපූජ්‍ය කෑගල්ලේ රතනසාර හිමියන් සහභාගී වූ අතර, ගාලු මිතුරු පදනම මෙම දරුවන්ට හා කඹුරු පිටියේ විපාසල් විශාල සංඛ්‍යාවකට කරන අඛණ්ඩ සේවය වෙනුවෙන් තම කෘතඥතාව පළ කළේය
කුඩා දරුවෝ ඉතා ආඩම්බරයෙන් හා ප්‍රීතියෙන් සුමිහිරි ගීත ගායනා කරමින් සහ නැටුම් ඉදිරිපත් කරමින් අමුත්තන් ප්‍රබෝධයට පත් කළහ.
