Opening of Hannah Carson Library at Mapalana School Kamburupitiya

On 2 October 2020, UKFG ceremonially handed over the newly built Hannah Carson Library to the children at Mapalana School Kamburupitiya.  Carson library was a wonderful gift for the school and the Mapalana village from Mr & Mrs Neil Carson and their daughter Hannah in Cambridge, UK.

The Hannah Carson library was built in a  remarkable short time of 5 weeks, under the supervision of Srilanka Chairman of UKFG and Devsiri’s father-in-law, Mr Sirisena Gamage, G.  The Hannah Carson library, which cost £9000, consists of brand new tables, chairs , book cupboards , ceiling fans and a marble floor and nearly 500 new text books all paid for by Mr Carson.

Following the opening of the library by Mr Gamage and the Divisional Director of Education, Mr G N Srimal, there were three hours of beautiful singsongs and colourful dances by the delightful children. Ven Mapalana Ghanadhaja, the School Principal Mr Samantha Meegahawaththa, Mr Sirisena Gamage and a few teachers addressed the large gatherings. Every speaker thanked the Carson family for their extraordinary generosity towards many schools in Kamburupitiya. The school Principal expressed their utmost gratitude to Mr Neil Carson for presenting the school with a much needed library. They have made an open invitation to the Carson family to visit Srilanka and their school.

In his speech Mr Gamage expressed how much the children at Mapalana have won the hearts and minds of Carson family and the Hewavidana family and that they will continue to help them in the future too.

Hannah Carson library is the fourth school library donated by the generous Carson family.  In addition to that, Carson family is hoping to donate  a badminton court to the  Mapalana school in January 2021. It would be the fifth such donation Carson family.    The parents and children of Mapalana schools  are eternally grateful to Mr and  Mrs Carson and Hannah
