At the request of local school principals and teachers, Mr Devsiri Hewavidana, who was on a short visit to Sri Lanka, and Mr Ananda Hewavidana, together with members of the UK Friends of Galle (UKFG) team, recently visited the homes of some of the most disadvantaged children supported by the UKFG charity in the Kamburupitiya area of Sri Lanka.

දේශීය පාසල් විදුහල්පතිවරුන් සහ ගුරුවරුන්ගේ ඉල්ලීම මත, කෙටි සංචාරයක් සඳහා ශ්රී ලංකාවට පැමිණ සිටි දේව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතා සහ ආනන්ද හේවාවිදාන මහතා, UK Friends of Galle (UKFG) කණ්ඩායමේ සාමාජිකයන් සමඟ එක්ව, කඹුරුපිටිය ප්රදේශයේ UKFG පදනමේ සහාය ලබන අතිශය අඩු ආදායම්ලාභී දරුවන් බොහෝදෙනෙකුගේ නිවාස වෙත මෑතකදී සංචාරයක නිරත වූහ.
Arriving unannounced with parcels of dry rations and small gifts, the team’s purpose was twofold: to provide immediate practical assistance and to spend time with families, listen to their concerns, understand their circumstances, and bring a moment of genuine happiness into their lives.
For many families, the visit came as a complete surprise. Parents and children welcomed the team with warm smiles and heartfelt hospitality. Yet behind those smiles, the sparse furnishings, bare kitchen shelves, and simple meals on the table quietly reflected the daily hardships they endure.
වියළි ආහාර ද්රව්ය සහ කුඩා තෑගි රැගෙන පෙර දැනුම්දීමකින් තොරව පැමිණි මෙම කණ්ඩායමේ අරමුණ දෙකකි. එකක් වන්නේ හදිසි අවශ්යතා සඳහා ප්රායෝගික සහාය ලබාදීමයි. අනෙක වන්නේ පවුල් සමඟ කාලය ගත කරමින් ඔවුන්ගේ ගැටලු අසා, ඔවුන්ගේ ජීවන තත්ත්වය අවබෝධ කරගෙන, ඔවුන්ගේ ජීවිතවලට සැබෑ සතුටේ මොහොතක් එක් කිරීමයි.
බොහෝ පවුල් සඳහා මෙම සංචාරය සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම අනපේක්ෂිත එකක් විය. දෙමාපියන් සහ දරුවන් උණුසුම් සිනහවෙන් හා හෘදයාංගම ආගන්තුක සත්කාරයෙන් කණ්ඩායම පිළිගත්හ. එහෙත් එම සිනහවලට පසුපසින් දක්නට ලැබුණු සරල ගෘහ භාණ්ඩ, හිස්ව පැවති මුළුතැන්ගෙයි රාක්ක සහ සරල ආහාර වේල් ඔවුන් දිනපතා මුහුණ දෙන දුෂ්කරතා නිහඬව පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.
These home visits are a vital part of UKFG’s work. They allow us to check on the well-being of the children we support, hear first-hand about their progress at school, and better understand the challenges their families face day to day.
Deeply moved by what he saw, Mr Devsiri presented each household with 5,000 Sri Lankan rupees to help with living expenses and enable the families to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with dignity.
මෙවැනි නිවාස සංචාර UKFG ආයතනයේ සේවාවේ ඉතා වැදගත් කොටසකි. අප සහාය දක්වන දරුවන්ගේ යහපැවැත්ම සොයා බැලීමටත්, ඔවුන්ගේ පාසල් ප්රගතිය පිළිබඳ සෘජුව දැනගැනීමටත්, පවුල් මුහුණ දෙන දෛනික අභියෝග වඩා හොඳින් අවබෝධ කර ගැනීමටත් ඒවා අපට අවස්ථාව සලසයි.
තමන් දුටු තත්ත්වයන්ගෙන් දැඩි ලෙස සංවේදී වූ දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතා, ජීවන වියදම් සඳහා සහාය වීමත්, ඔව්නට ගෞරවයෙන් සිංහල හා දෙමළ අලුත් අවුරුද්ද සැමරීමට හැකිවීමත් සඳහා සෑම පවුලකටම රුපියල් 5,000 බැගින් පරිත්යාග කළේය.
The response was immediate and heartwarming. In every home, parents and children expressed their sincere gratitude to Chairman Mr Gamage, Founder Mr Devsiri Hewavidana, Mr Ananda, and the wider UKFG volunteer team.
Several parents spoke through tears of joy, overwhelmed that people from so far away would take the time to visit them personally and offer support during difficult times.

These visits embody the spirit of UK Friends of Galle. Since 2004, UKFG has transformed the lives of thousands of children in Kamburupitiya, Imaduwa, the Galle District, and surrounding areas through scholarships, school uniforms, libraries, computer laboratories, sports facilities including badminton courts and a modern swimming pool, emergency assistance programmes, and educational initiatives.
Yet it is often the simplest acts of kindness that leave the deepest impact. Sitting with a family, sharing a conversation, listening to their hopes and struggles, and seeing a child’s face light up with happiness—these are the moments that remind us why this work matters.
මෙවැනි සංචාර UK Friends of Galle ආයතනයේ සැබෑ ආත්මය නිරූපණය කරයි. 2004 වසරේ සිට UKFG ආයතනය ශිෂ්යත්ව, පාසල් නිල ඇඳුම්,හා පාවහන් පුස්තකාල, පරිගණක, විද්යාගාර, බැඩ්මින්ටන් ක්රීඩාංගණ සහ නවීන පිහිනුම් තටාක ඇතුළු ක්රීඩා පහසුකම්, හදිසි ආධාර වැඩසටහන් සහ අධ්යාපනික වැඩසටහන් මගින් කඹුරුපිටිය, ඉමදුව, ගාල්ල දිස්ත්රික්කය සහ අවට ප්රදේශවල දරුවන් දහස් ගණනකගේ ජීවිත ශවෙනස් කර ඇත.
එහෙත් බොහෝ විට ගැඹුරුම බලපෑම ඇති කරන්නේ සරල කරුණාවන්ත ක්රියාවන්ය. පවුලක් සමඟ වාඩි වී කතාබහ කිරීම, ඔවුන්ගේ බලාපොරොත්තු සහ අරගලවලට සවන් දීම, දරුවෙකුගේ මුහුණ සතුටින් ආලෝකමත් වන අයුරු දැකීම—මෙවැනි මොහොතවල්ම මෙම කාර්යයේ වැදගත්කම අපට නැවතත් මතක් කර දෙයි.
Words can scarcely express our admiration for the dedication and compassion shown by Founder Mr Devsiri Hewavidana, Chairman Mr Gamage, Mr Ananda, and the many volunteers who give their time, energy, and resources throughout the year without expecting anything in return.
Selfless service of this kind is rare and deserves the highest recognition.
දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මහතා, සභාපති ගමගේ මහතා, ආනන්ද මහතා සහ කිසිදු ප්රතිලාභයක් අපේක්ෂා නොකර වසර පුරා තම කාලය, ශක්තිය සහ සම්පත් කැප කරන ස්වේච්ඡා සේවකයන්ගේ කැපවීම සහ කරුණාව පිළිබඳ අපගේ ගෞරවය වචනවලින් සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම ප්රකාශ කළ නොහැක.

අපගේ හෘදයාංගම ප්රාර්ථනය වන්නේ සෑම UKFG ස්වේච්ඡා සේවකයෙකුම යහපත් සෞඛ්යයෙන්, ශක්තියෙන් සහ අධිෂ්ඨානයෙන් යුතුව තවත් වසර ගණනාවක් මෙම අගනා සේවාව ඉදිරියට ගෙන යාමට ආශීර්වාද ලබනු දැකීමයි.
