During the week 27 -30 June 2022, UKFG has treated children in five schools to a nutritious lunch with rice, three vegetables and dry fish. . These are the photos from Mapalana, Gatharea. Thumbe, Godawa and Sapugoda schools.
Today Srilanka is going through an unprecedented economic crisis. People are having to spend most of the day in queues for fuel, gas or rice. Prices of essential food have sky rocketed. Citizens who used to enjoy three meals a day are now having one or two. Worst affected from this crisis are the children in Srilanka. Their school education gets constantly interrupted due to fuel and food shortages or sudden school closure. Many children come to school without breakfast and, in most cases, without dinner the night before as well. It is not unusual to see a 10 or 20 children fainting at the morning assembly in any school . The fact that the government has stopped the free lunch at schools has made the situation even worse. There are many children who just have to drink the water from the tap at lunchtime while their friends enjoy the packed lunches they have brought from home.
UKFG, being a grass roots organization, has no massive funds to feed all the school children who need it. However, we have started to feed children in a few schools at Kamburupitiya. The parent volunteers cook the meals under hygienic conditions and ldy teachers do the serving.. We are We cook more food than required and let children take them home so they could share them with their starving siblings at night It is heart t warming to see these children happily tucking in to their first hot meal in weeks able to continue with the programme for another week or two until we exhaust the little funds we have got left.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ වර්තමාන තත්ත්වය අතිශයින්ම ඛේදජනකය. ජනතාවට අත්‍යාවශ්‍ය තෙල්, ගෑස්, හාල් ලබාගැනීම සදහා ඔවුනට පැය හය හතක් පෝලිම්වල ලිගන්නට සිදුව ඇත. මෙයින් මේ ආර්ථික අහේනියෙන් බරපතල ලෙස ශාරීරික හා මානසික් ආබධාවලට ලක්ව තිබෙන්නේ අපේ ළමා පරපුරයි. රාත්‍රී ආහාරයක් නැතුව නින්දට යන බොහෝ දරුවන් පසුදා පාසැලට එන්නේ කහට වතුරෙන් උගුර පොඩ්ඩක් තෙමාගෙනය. පාසැලේදී දිනකට දරුවන් දහයක් විස්සක් කලන්ත වී වැටේ. වසර ගණනක් තිස්සේ රජයෙන් නොමිලයේ ලබාදුන් දිවා ආහාරය නවතා දැමීම නිසා දවල් කෑම පැයේ දී ටැප් එකෙන් වතුර බී කුසගින්න නිවාගැනීමට උත්සාහ දරණ දරුවන් බොහෝය.
මේ ඛේදජනක තත්ත්වයෙන් පාසැල් ළමුන් හත් අට සීයක් හෝ බේරාගැනීමේ අදහසින් ජුනි 22දා සිට කඹුරුපිටියේ පාසැල් කිහිපයකට දිවා ආහාරය සැපයීමේ සද්කාරයය අප බාරගත්තෙමු. මෙය සති දෙකක් තිස්සේ පවත්වාගෙ න යාමට අපි අදහස් කරමු. ළමයින් තුන්සිය තුන්සියයක් සිටින පාසැලකට බත් සමග එළවළු තුනක් හා හාල්මැස්සන් අඩංගු රසවත් ඉතා පෝෂ්‍ය ජනක ආහාර වේලක් ලබා දීමට වැය වන්නේ රුපියල් 30,000 ක මුදලක් පමණි. දෙමව්පියන් විසින් පාසැලේදීම එම ආහාර ඉතා පිරිසිදුව උයන අතර ගුරු මහත්මීන් ස්වෙච්ඡාවෙන්ම කෑම බෙදා දීම කරනු ලැබේ. අවශ්‍ය ප්‍රමාණයට වඩා ආහාර උයන්නේ මේ පුංචි දරුවන්ට ඉතිරි කෑම තමන්ගේ ප්ලාස්ටික් පෙට්ටි වල දමා ගෙන ගෙදර ගෙනගොස් බඩගින්නේ සිටින නංගිලා මල්ලිලා අක්කලා සමග රෑට බෙදාගෙන කෑමට හැකි නිසාය
කඹුරුපිටියේ මාපලාන සපුගොඩ ගෝදාව හා ගතාර යන පාසැල් වල සුන්දර දරුවන් ඉතා සතුටෙන් දිවා ආහාරය ලබා ගන්නා පින්තූරයි මේ.
