During August and September 2023, Southern Srilanka had rain almost everyday .Many towns and villages went under water and the severe flood damaged crops and properties. 5000 temporary workers at tea estates in and around Kamburupitiya lost their jobs due to the rain . 40000 people had to be evacuated from homes and put in temporary accommodations. , Vitiyala village in Kamburupitiya was cut off from the other areas . UKFG immediately went in to action to help flood victims
Mr Mark Miller and Mrs Nicky Pharoah from Nottingham, England had been helping Vitiyala South school since 2021. They have provided all 44 children in the school, with books and sports equipment. What’s more, for five months in 2022/23 all the children were treated to free lunch by this generous couple.
When Mrs Nicky and Mr Mark heard about the relentless rain and the disastrous flood and the loss of parents’ jobs they immediately donated £1300 for UKFG’s flood relief work
On 12th of October Mr Devsiri & Mrs Ruvini Hewavidana together with Mr Ananda Hewavidana and Mr Didul Gamage visited Vitiyala South school with 44 bags of Dry rations. The bag contained 10kg of rice, coconuts, flour , dry fish salmon and other essential food that was sufficient for a family for a few weeks . There were biscuits chocolates, marshmallows and many other sweets for the children.
While accepting the gift bags gratefully , the school principal expressed his utmost gratitude to Mrs Nicky and Mr Mark for their generous donation . He said that at a time when flood had caused so much damage to the community and parents were struggling to feed their children, the gifts bags were a godsend to them.
After Mrs Ruvini handed over the food bags to each child on behalf of Mrs Nicky and Mr Mark, children entertained the visitors with sing songs, cultural dances and speeches.
At the end of the event , Thankful parents were struggling to carry the bags that weighted 23Kilos home. Their happy smiles were very rewarding for all the guests

විටියල පාසල් දරුවන් 44 දෙනාට රු 10000ක් වටිනා බඩු මල්ල බැගින් බෙදා දීම.
හදිසි ගංවතුරෙන් ආපදාවට පත් වූ විටියල දකුණ විද්‍යාලයේ දරුවන් 44 දෙනාගේම දෙමව්පියන්ට එංගලන්තයේ නිකී ෆැරෝ හා මාක් මිලර් ම දානපති යුවළ විසින් රුපියල් දහදාහක් වටිනා බඩු මල්ල බැගින් පරිත්‍යාග කරන ලදී. දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මැතිතුමා සහ රුවිනි හේවාවිදාන මැතිනියගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් බඩු මලු බෙදා දීම සිදු විය.මේ අවස්ථාවට රුවිනි මහත්මියගේ සොයුරු දිදුල් ගමගේ මහතාද ආනන්ද හේවාවිදාන මැතිතුමාද සහභාගී විය.
හාල් පොල් සීනි පිටි කරවල සැමන් අල රටලූනු ඇතුළු ගෙදරකට අත්‍යාවශ්‍ය ආහාර වර්ග 31ක්හා දරුවන් ප්‍රිය කරන චොක්ලට් බිස්කට් මාස්මෙලෝස් තල වැනි රස ආහාර ද මේ වටිනා බඩු මල්ලේ අඩංගු විය
පාසල විසින් සංවිධානය කර අලංකාරවත් නැටුම් ගැයුම් වලින් අනතුරුව බඩු මලු ලබා දීම සිදු විය. මෙම චාම් උත්සවය අමතා කතා කල ගරු විදුහල්පති සුගත් මහතා 2021 වසරේ සිට තම පාසැල් දරුවන් වෙනුවෙන් කරන ලද නොයකුත් ආධාර උපකාර වලට බෙහෙවින්ම ස්තුතිවන්ත වී‍ය . වැස්ස හා ගංවතුරට අස්වැන්න විනාශ වී තම රැකියාව අහිමි වී අතිශය දුකට පත්ව සිටි දෙමව්පියන්ට මේ ලැබුණු බඩුමල්ල දෙවියන්ගේ දායාදයක් වැනිය යි එතුමා තවදුරටත් ප්‍රකාශ කළේය
කිලෝග්‍රෑම් 23කට අධික බරැති රු 10,000ක් වටිනා බඩුමලු කරතබාගෙන ගාලු මිතුරු පදනමට පින් දෙමින් ඉතා සතුටින් ගෙදර දෙමව්පියන් දකින විට දෙව්සිරි හේවාවිදාන මැතිතුමා ඇතුලු සියලු දෙනාගේම සිත්වල ඇති වූ ප්‍රීතිය මිල මුදල් වලට ගත නොහැ ක්කක් වී ය.
